New England Golf Vacation -
September / October, 2008
The Fall foliage in New England is legendary and people come from all around the world to see and experience Mother Nature as she changes colors in such a spectacular way. Come to New England and play golf amid this splendid scenery for the trip of your life. While this trip is available from April though October, the “season” for optimum color is Sept through October. The location for this trip is Jackson, a small town in New Hampshire, on the edge of the White Mountain National Forest Park.
The area's landscape, complete with the Jackson "Honeymoon" covered bridge built in 1876, white steepled churches, high mountains and rolling farmland, has been deemed "sublime" by artists of international renown. The villages' grand hotels, comfortable inns and delightful restaurants have long been known for hospitality that is as warm as the fiery colors of autumn.
Recently a number of very interesting stores have entered the scene in Jackson. In keeping with the sophistication of the village, these stores offer high-end gifts and apparel, as well as a good supply of locally made products. Some of the nicest galleries in Mt. Washington Valley are located in Jackson. (incidentally Jackson was named among the Top Ten Romantic Ski Towns by Ski America authors - people love coming to Jackson in the winter for romantic getaways).
Please note that Mount Washington is undergoing extensive renovations and while the front nine will be open in early summer 2008, the complete course will not be available until 2009.
Accommodation
There is ample choice of accommodation in and around Jackson, ranging from the 5* Mount Washington Resort in Bretton woods to the array of quaint country inns such as The Wentworth, Eagle Mountain House and the Lodge at Jackson Village.
Wentworth
At the Wentworth Golf Club in Jackson Village the picturesque course provides outstanding views of the majestic Presidential Range and the scenic splendor of the Wildcat and Ellis Rivers as they meander throughout the course.
The Wentworth Golf Club's beautiful 18-hole course is the centerpiece of this classic New England village. Don't forget your camera as the famous covered bridges makes for a great photograph and keepsake of your day.
Golf at Province Lake
An upscale, affordable and family friendly golf facility located on the border between Maine and New Hampshire. Province Lake Golf is an 18 hole -- 6279 yard Course. The Course sits next to crystal clear Province Lake and is surrounded by wooded hills. The lake is the focal point as it is visible from 14 of the holes on the course. The woods create a sound buffer imparting a "quiet" rarely found these days. It is a rare treat! Province Lake also has a driving range, putting green day care & a beautiful function facility, whether indoors or out.
Golf at Hales Location
Designed by famed golf course architect Albert Zikorus, the Hales Location course offers golfers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to enjoy a challenging layout on a relatively quick course. The smooth fairways and challenging greens are well conditioned. This course also offers many beautiful views of the White Mountains, Whitehorse and Cathedral Ledge and the Green Hills. Although a 9 hole course, it is so good it is a “must play” for visitors to the area.
"One of the most unique and singularly beautiful golf developments in the country.
Hale's Location has gone for the quality and quiet cultured lifestyle of
traditional New England" as described in Golf Magazine.
Golf at Waukewan
This course is located in Meredith in the heart of the Lakes region with the course itself situated in a wildlife sanctuary and surrounded by several majestic mountain ranges.
This is truly a beautiful course, with fast greens, and narrow fairways.
The course was built on gently rolling hills, and there are also water hazards coming into play on some holes.
Golf at North Conway
Established in 1895, North Conway Country Club has provided the best golf experience in Mt Washington Valley for over 100 years. One round on the course speaks for itself, the views of Mt Washington and the Presidential and Moat Ranges will leave you speechless. Adjudged by Golf week to be the 4th best course in New Hampshire.
