7 days / 6 nights / 5 rounds of golf

Day 1:

Depart from the USA for Scotland; all flights are overnight. Allow for the 5 hour time difference from EST. Enjoy dinner and the movie on board.

Day 2:

You will be met on arrival at Glasgow or Edinburgh airports in the early morning by an AtlanticGolf representative who is there to welcome you to Scotland and assist you in any way necessary. Pick up your rental vehicle or meet your driver and head off to St Andrews, a 90 minute drive from Glasgow and a little over na hour from Edinburgh.

 

On arrival in St Andrews, check into the Ardgowan Hotel for 4 nights. The hotel is located close to the Old course and within 2 minutes walk of the town center. St Andrews has a wide range of attractions including the St Andrews Cathedral.

Day 3:

Following a hearty Scottish breakfast, you can walk to the golf course.

Following golf, consider some sightseeing: there are a number of small fishing villages in the vicinity: Crail, Anstruther and Pittenween, all worth a visit.

 

St Andrews has a number of fine golf stores with a wide range of Scottish and golf merchandise. Most close pretty early, around 6 pm, so you might want to stock up early in the trip.

Day 4:

Breakfast at the hotel before the trip north east to Carnoustie; the drive takes you through Dundee, a reasonable size business town. Carnoustie has three courses, but you will play the famous championship links.

Glamis Castle, the legendary setting for Shakespeare’s Macbeth, has been a royal residence since the 17c. It is located about 40 mins west of the golf course, a well worth diversion for history buffs.

 

Day 5:

After breakfast, walk across the road to play one of Scotland’s hidden gems.

Following golf, consider a trip to Kellie Castle & Garden or the Scottish Fisheries Museum at Anstruther.

Day 6:

The highlight of the trip, the most famous course in the world. And you golf course is only a few minutes away, so you can actually walk to the starter.

One of Scotland’s “must-sees”, Falkland Palace is located at Cupar, a little west of the town. This has been a royal palace since the days of the Stewarts.

 

Drive south via Edinburgh to Gullane.

 

Check into the Golf Inn for 3 nights.

 

Day 7:

This area of Scotland is rich with great links courses, the best of which are included in this itinerary.

Following golf, consider a trip to Glenkimcjie Distillery, home of Edinburgh Malt where you can see the whisky making in process.

Day 8:

Golf at North Berwick

 

The Scottish Seabird Center in North Berwick is considered on of Scotland’s most popular attractions. Close by is the John Muir House (botanist/environmentalist) who emigrated from here to the US in 1838.

Day 9 :

Leave Gullane for Glasgow or Edinburgh for departure to the US. Both have Duty Free shopping, but remember that international visitors can reclaim Value Added Tax at Departure on all purchases taken home.
