With 7 holes along the Caribbean Sea, Teeth of the Dog deserve its ranking as the 28th best golf course in the world (Golf Magazine, 2005). Designer Pete Dye calls it his masterpiece and points out that the course was “definitely designed by the man upstairs”. Teeth of the Dog is simply fantastic!
It is beautiful, spectacular and a fun challenge for golfers at all levels. This is truly a world-class golf course that you must play!
The Links course, designed by Pete Dye, has a moderately hilly track with tall bahia and guinea grass roughs as well as plenty of sand traps to keep you on your toes. Considered by some players to be reminiscent of traditional British and Scottish courses, it has several lagoons and even lakes with wading birds.
Dye Fore is situated on the elevated riverside of the Chavon River in the high-end resort of Casa de Campo. On the front nine you start by playing down hill towards the private port of the resort before returning uphill to finish the front nine. The view of the Caribbean Sea and the island of Catalina is simply breath taking. The back nine is full of slopes and hills that challenge playing and course management skills. The view of the Chavon River and the 16th century Spanish style village of Altos de Chavon makes these some of the most beautiful golf holes in the world.
Punta Espada (located inside Cap Cana) is designed by Jack Nicklaus and is the first of three golf courses to be designed in Cap Cana by “The Bear”. The magnificent course is beautifully integrated into the existing landscape of Cap Cana which includes the breath taking views of the Caribbean ocean, huge bluffs and waterways.
9 holes situated directly on the ocean side and all 18 holes with unique ocean views, makes this championship golf course memorable. Punta Espada will only be open to the public for 2 years after which is will close and become a “members only” course.
La Cana Golf Course is one of the most beautiful and most challenging golf courses in the Caribbean. P. B. Dye designed this spectacular seaside golf course. 14 holes feature breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea, and 4 holes play along the ocean itself. P. B. Dye has designed each hole to present its own unique challenge: sometimes infuriating but always memorable.
Golf Magazine is particularly fond of P. B. Dye’s 18th at La Cana Golf Course. They reported that “the grand par 5, 18th is a gentle dogleg to the left that is clearly inspired by the famous 18th at Pebble Beach – the shoreline is sandier, the water bluer and the journey more challenging.”
Six-time Spanish Champion, Jose "Pepe" Gancedo, designed Cocotal by following the lay of the land, using the natural terrain to provide a route easily remembered long after the player finishes.
The trademarks of the course include strategically placed trees, bunkers, mounds, gently rolling terrain and generous fairways. Cocotal is a great challenge for low-handicapped golfers, while beginners and intermediate players can continually improve their game.
